Potash Knob
Potash Knob, a shoulder of Whaleback Mountain, rises high above the condominiums across the Pemigewasset River from Loon Mountain. Its vertical ledges can be seen from the road, towering over the riverfront homes. There is no trail. There is no trail even remotely close by. There is no easy way. This one isn’t for the inexperienced or the faint of heart. We are going straight up and when we get there, the ledges offer no safe place to sit and relax. So why on earth would I put it in this book? Oh you’ll get it. As soon as your feet hit that precipitous cliff, well, cliffs, there's actually two of them, you will more than understand.
